Quarantine and Shelter at Home 'beach'
Nov 16
Upham Beach

We’ll enjoy a relaxing stay at this beautiful locale from about 10:45 ‘til  4: 15.

Upham has 4 wooden dune walkovers that lead from the long narrow parking lot to a wide, white pristine sandy beach that gets meticulously cleaned each morning. It is about 550’ feet from the parking lot to the water’s edge, but you could set up almost anywhere in between.  A short walk north takes you to Blind Pass, which has a rock jetty. This is a great place to watch dolphins who often put on quite a show of jumping out of the water.

We must alert you to the fact that there is no lifeguard at Upham Beach Park.  Please take that into consideration when deciding whether you wish to join us on this trip.

As always, you can bring your lunch from home or enjoy one right on the beach at the modest but tasty Paradise Grill.

Liability Waiver:  The BBC has a revised Liability Waiver specific to our club.  Even if you have signed a liability release form in the past for our club, we are asking that you sign the revised one. This will only need to be done one time; not yearly as in the past.  Please click on link below, print and sign, and give the form to your bus leader on this trip.

Barefoot Beachcombers Club (‘BBC’ will also suffice)
Safe Ship

333 Colony Blvd. #110
The Villages, FL 32162

You could instead hand your addressed envelope to a person at the counter at Safe Ship in Colony Plaza, saving you the stamp.

It’s just a 2 1/4-hr. drive south (including a rest stop) to this well-kept secret beautiful beach.  It provides a reprieve from the almost constant presence of tall hotels and condominiums that line the shore of St. Pete Beach.

As a reminder, to be most considerate of this difficult pandemic situation, we will need two people to sit together in adjacent seats, with no one occupying the row in front of them or behind them or adjacent to them.  For those of you who need a different seating configuration, we can only offer you a seat if conditions permit.

Since it appears that we may have a few too many club members interested in joining us on this trip, when we receive your application and check, we will hold our customary lottery.   If you are, unfortunately, not selected in that lottery, we will notify you immediately and shred your check.

Woody's Waterfront - Outdoor seafood eatery right on the water with colorful seating.

If this trip interests you, print the reservation form (click on green button below) and mail it along with your check (made out to the BBC) for $32 per person to the address below.  On October 29th, we will conduct our lottery and you will be notified shortly thereafter of your seat confirmation or waitlist status.

And, in case you get bored after sitting for a few hours on this sand and feel the need to stretch—and shop—just a 10-minute walk away from the beach is the Historic Corey Avenue Shopping District, a delightful mix of unique boutiques and galleries, clothing and accessories, gifts and home furnishings, and restaurants – everything one would hope to find!  The opening of Corey Avenue and its official dedication took place on Saturday afternoon, February 13, 1937 with a mass celebration and motorcade.  And while the tenant businesses have changed many times over the years, Corey Avenue was, and still remains ‘the heart of downtown St. Pete Beach’.

Rick’s Reef- Crab cakes, pasta and other American fare served in a relaxed space at this homely spot. 6712 Gulf Blvd.

And we have plenty of room in our bus basements for your purchases !!

Please note that we put out an invitation for 28 of you to join us on a trip to St. Pete, but 103 gladly accepted that invitation.  Thus, Lamers has offered us four buses at half capacity.  To best accommodate that arrangement, we will park and depart from Lamers’ fenced and secured bus yard in Wildwood down the street from the Russell Stover Chocolate Factory.  Lamers’ address is 1410 Industrial Dr, Wildwood, Fla. 34785.  We hope this short drive won’t inconvenience you (or a carpool you can form) too much.

We would like to point out that Lamers is voluntarily absorbing a significant loss of income due to our need for half capacity on our buses, but we will not reduce our four drivers’ tips of $100+ each.  Thus, we will be increasing your cost from $30  to  $32.
