Christmas Party

You have two choices on Monday, Nov. 16, Beachcombers...........

Do you want to go to:

1.  Venice, Italy for the day – The cost is $4,974.32, (and, yes, Sharon could arrange that!)
or
2.Venice, Florida (on the Gulf) for the day – The cost is $25.

To join us on this trip to Venice and/or to the Christmas Party, print the reservation form (click on green button below) and mail it along with your check (made out to the BBC) for $25 per person (plus $10 for the Christmas Party) to the address below.  Please make sure any combination check clearly explains what it represents.  On November 2, we will conduct our lottery and you will be notified shortly thereafter of your seat confirmation or waitlist status.

In addition, the club has booked and will pay for the always fun performance by a Village favorite, Suzie Casta.

If you are considering number 1, keep in mind that although the gondoliers are pretty handsome, there are no beaches there.

The rest of us will proceed directly to Venice, Fla. to Sharky’s on the Pier, voted #1 Florida Best Beach Bar for 2013.  Enjoy a delicious lunch and a peaceful swim or leisurely stroll along the shore.

Just one more personal picture to share with you--a chalk drawing of this artist’s 99 year-old grandfather at two stages of his life.

Liability Waiver:  The BBC has a revised Liability Waiver specific to our club.  Even if you have signed a liability release form in the past for our club, we are asking that you sign the revised one. This will only need to be done one time; not yearly as in the past.  Please click on link below, print and sign, and give the form to your bus leader on this trip.

on a riverfront in Tavares for our holiday lunch and musical entertainment.

While entry is free for all visitors, they sincerely appreciate generous donations ($5 or more is suggested) to help offset the city’s $2 million cost to host the festival.  Note, too, that some featured events with have a cost including elevating visitors above ground level or viewing featured artwork.  You can read more about this festival at:  https://chalkfestival.org/

We will be there on the last day of the chalk festival when all the art is completed and—more importantly--everyone under age 65 has returned to work or school.  We hope this will make for a pleasant, uncrowded atmosphere.  We will start running buses from Sharky’s to the festival every half hour beginning at 1:00, with the last buses departing from Sharky’s to pick-up all remaining members at the festival at 3:50. That will permit you to spend as much, or as little, time as you like at the festival.

At 4:30 we will return to Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar for a dinner featuring the dishes shown on the reservation form.

Finally, we need to ask for your commitment to our BBC Christmas Party on Dec. 14.  We have booked the

Hurricane Dockside Grill.

It’s colorful and fun and the perfect setting for a beach-themed holiday party. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating.

It is important to note that there is no lifeguard at this beach. Please consider that fact in deciding whether you wish to swim that day.

Then there’s the  Pièce de résistance !!

We’d like to share with you a very special event that will be happening in Venice. They will be hosting the Sarasota Chalk Festival, a feast for your eyes, senses and taste buds, following this year’s theme 'Eat, Drink and Be Merry!'  Hundreds of pavement artists from around the world come together and use the pavement as their canvas and pastel chalk as their medium to create breathtaking oversized traditional and 3D illusionistic paintings.

We’ll visit the Venice Municipal Airport Fairground where, over the prior weekend, artists will have created oversized masterpieces of mouthwatering delicacies, happy times and thirst quenching imagery. The festival is competing for another Guiness World Record—the largest chalk drawing in the world--with renowned artist, Kurt Wenner.  Debuting at this event will be a vertical box constructed of four 8’ x 20’ walls specifically for Senior Citizens to create pastel paintings and chalk art on oversized chalk boards. Luckily, this part of the event will be finalized before those of us who can’t even draw stick men arrive.

Some of last year’s works of art included ….

Do bring along either your dancing or toe-tapping shoes and join her in some great fun.   All bad singers will be offered a seat on a departing boat!

We are withholding pictures of the interior to pique your curiosity, but here are some exterior views:

To help the restaurant manager prepare dishes timely and get us on our way to home, we are asking you (below) to indicate at this time the dish that you believe you would best enjoy.  We are not asking you to commit or pay for it at this time; just help us give the restaurant a general idea of the numbers of each meal we might be ordering that day.

Our club members said they really enjoyed their delicious meals and good service there two year ago.
