Joan and I were anxious to visit Cuba before it gets spoiled by modern development. So far, very little has changed in Cuba since Fidel Castro took control in the 1950’s. Like opening a “Time Capsule”, a visit to Cuba is like taking a trip 60 years back in time. The old buildings and old cars from the 50’s are still there. Through “Cultural Exchanges” we learned the people are very warm, friendly and happy to see us.

~As with all BBC trips, these cruises have been fully checked out in advance to verify the facts, quality of services, etc. Joan and Don Deakin, (Founders of the BBC), took the trips to Cuba in August and to the Dominican Republic for Thanksgiving Week in 2016.
~The cruises are provided by Fathom Cruise Lines, (a Subsidiary of Carnival & Princess).
~The ship is the Luxurious 704-passenger “MV Adonia”
~The Adonia is the ONLY cruise ship approved to sail between the USA and Cuba by both governments! (Its first cruise to Cuba was in May, 2016.)

Joan and I discovered that this is a cruise like no other cruise we have ever been on. Remember the ”Peace Corps”? This trip is a mini-version. Each traveler has an opportunity to take FREE shore excursions into local villages by charter bus to make a difference in the lives of residents in the Dominican Republic by participating in one to three “Impact Activities”; or you can just watch. You can also spend your days in Amber Cove shopping at the many boutiques or at the Aqua Center (FREE pools, water slides, sun decks with lounge chairs, shaded hammocks, etc.; or rent a kayak, paddle boat, private cottages on the hillside & on the water; ride a ZipLine; or hang out at the bar & grille). For a nominal fee, you can take a shore excursion to one of the local beaches or into the town of Puerto Plata.
